I bought this book hoping to be able to make my own PCBs, but as is the norm with free software nothing really works. The book is supposed to be for beginners. The is no real info on installation, just download and install. Guess what? The installation is problematic.When I try to associate a foot print for the PCB with a schematic symbol, say for a capacitor, the libraries show inductors. This happens for resistors as well. Cannot find anything in the book or online referencing this problem.Bottom line, if you are a beginner, pass this book up.Update:I have determined the problem. The first download I used did not have the libraries. I download and installed them and the problems continued. I uninstalled the program and downloaded from a different mirror and installed it, the libraries were there but did not work properly. On a whim, I tried a different machine, and everything worked correctly. So only the old machine what I ended up doing:1) Uninstall the program2) Ran a cleaner program to cleanup the registry.3)IMPORTANT Delete the directory "c:\users\"Username"\Appdata\roaming\kicad4) Reinstalled kicad.Things then worked.Since this is a Kicad problem and not a book problem, I adjusted the rating. There should still be a better installation discussion in the book. Other then that, the book is well written and easy to follow, with the minor problem that the book is not up to date with the newest version of KiCad. Some windows and options will appear different than the book, but its not too hard to figure out. Will provide another update when I finish the book.
